Mr. Boswell is noted for his biography of his friend, Dr. Samuel Johnson. This edition edited and introduced by Frederick A. Pottle. Volume includes about 20 b&w engraved illustrations. With extensive endnotes and index. --- In navy quarter cloth over grey paper-covered boards w/handwritten diary facsimile on front and back; titling in gilt on spine. Volume housed in grey paper-covered slipcase. --- With small shallow crease to front free endpaper, a strip of light soiling to cover fore-edge, and slightly rounded cover corner, otherwise a bright, clean, and unmarked copy. Slipcase in good shape but with small tears to paper covering. (Any reference to dust jacket is meant to describe the slipcase.); Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; viii, 365 pages
