A very scarce mid-19th century reprint edition of this biography of the American founding father. The author was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and was a pastor in Worcester, Massachusetts. This work was first published in 1808. Two volumes bound in one, each with its own title page and frontis illustration. With additional illustrations scattered through the book. --- In dark red cloth-covered boards with embossed decorations and Washington's silhoutte to front and back covers, very faded gilt-stamped spine titling & decorations. --- With a prior owner's sticker to front paste-down, an inked signature in an elegant hand to front endpaper dated July 4, 1860, and later owners' signatures. The leaves often show considerable foxing and the book has been well-used and is somewhat battered but is holding together with its sturdy sewn binding.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; iv, 223, 218 pages
